As widely expected, Kevin Pietersen has been named captain of England. You can read about it here, here, here and here. He was the only guy to be guaranteed a place in all three iterations of the game, and it should stop him running off to play IPL.
I remain unconvinced that you should burden your star player with the job of captaincy. It didn’t work with Beefy or Flintoff, and – while I wish KP the best – I have concerns that it may impact on his batting.

Who would have been your choice?

Strauss probably, although my outside pick would have been Cook. He led England under 19s extremely well and is part of both test and ODI sides. The Saffas gave Smith the job at a young age and he has excelled. Plus, there is something comforting in appointing Captain Cook to tame Australia!

I think KP is a good choice as captain. Hes a very attacking and positive cricketer so hopefully it flows into his captaincy as well.
Hopefully it wont affect his batting.
And hopefully his ego wont get in the way either. Hoping the new role would mature him and take him off his selfish ways of playing.

I could see why some people would go for Strauss, I think his form as a batsman would have excelled as captain. Much like it did when he captained us to victory against Pakistan in 2006. However, he isn’t in the one-day side so that was probably the deal breaker.
