Has anyone else ever noticed the resemblance between Brad Haddin, the wicket-keeper/batsman who spent years as Adam Gilchrist’s under-study, piling on the runs and dismissals in both Australian state cricket, and also for Australia’s A side, and Colonel Decker, the fictional military policeman who spent years chasing Hannibal Smith’s A-Team in the cult US TV series?

The resemblance is uncanny. Brett Lee, Aussie paceman and part-time crooner, looks a hell of a lot like American actor and director Barry Tubb. Who is Barry Tubb you say? Well, he’s best known by his call sign ‘Wolfman’ in 1980′s classic film Top Gun.

Interesting one this, although probably not as interesting as a Tiger Woods sex tape. You might not quite be able to see it from the pictures… although then again… you might just. Recently sitings on TV suggests that Yuvraj needs to cut down on his pork life and get some exercise. Separated at birth presents Yuvraj Singh, and, a potato. One of world’s most annoying cricketers, and a vegetable. Go figure.

The Village Cricketer is a big fan of gingers, not as much of a fan as TVC English All Star Wrencharoo, or The Wisden Cricketer journalist, TVC English All Star and ginger batting sensation Ed Craig, but still a big fan.

So, being a fan of ‘le ginge’, TVC was most excited to see Aussie sub (he’s a sub, but not a supersub like Gary Pratt or Bilal Shafayet) Andrew McDonald take the field yesterday. I’m not harsh enough to compare him (as Bob Willis did) to Ronald McDonald, however there is a compelling Andrew McDonald doppleganger we can reference in these hallowed e-pages.

Yes, ginger Aussie Andrew McDonald looks a bit like ginger actor Jason Flemyng, who played Tom in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Brad in Spiceworld: The Movie.

Very timely look-a-likey here. Both tall, blonde and feminine.

On one hand we have Apprentice star, Apprentice finalist and possible Apprentice winner Kate Walsh. The Apprentice final is tonight and tasty Kate will be up against Yasmina Siadatan to hear Sir Alan Sugar say “you’re hired.”

On the other hand we have Stuart Broad. Effective executor of the innovative and effective round-the-wicket-at-the-death ploy, although not quite so effective at the hitting-the-stumps-with-the-ball-when-attempting-a-run-out ploy. Young Stuart will be competing today to keep England in the T20 Cricket World Cup in a must win match against Pakistan.

The pictures I could find don’t do the likeness justice, but when I was watching the Canary Yellows v Saffas highlights on Sky last night, I was struck by the how much Nathan Hauritz looks like Phil Tufnell.

Hauritz is right armed, Tuffers left; Hauritz knows which end of a bat to hold, Tuffers doesn’t; Hauritz is Australian, Tuffers is English. But they do look alike. Watching Hauritz bowl is like watching Tuffers in the mirror.

Oh, and Tuffers was the King of the Jungle, putting in outstanding performances in the Australian bush. Hauritz has taken over from Warne, who was never shy of chasing a bit of Australian ahem.

The Village Cricketer has noticed similarities in the apperance of Mahela Jayawardene, fine batting technician, captain and native of Sri Lanka, and Nien Nunb, small, jowled, mouse-eyed native of Sullust, who served as co-pilot to Lando Calrissian aboard the Millennium Falcon during the attack on the Death Star in Return of the Jedi.

A world apart in terms of location and talent (yes, Luke Wright is that good), The Village Cricketer has noticed a striking resemblance betwen Sussex and England batting all-rounder Luke Wright and Queensland and Australia all-rounder Shane Watson. Both blonde, both open the batting in one-day matches and both bowl a bit of medium-pace. Watson’s international career should be behind him cos he ain’t very good and even the Aussies don’t like him, Wright’s career is laid out in front of him after he was named in TVC’s team to win the next World Cup.

The Village Cricketer has noticed a more than vague similarity between the wicketkeeping Sussex and England cricketer Matt Prior and the surreal scorekeeping baby George Dawes, played by Matt Lucas in the Reeves and Mortimer comedy panel game Shooting Stars. In May 2007, Lucas was placed 8th in the list of the UK’s 100 most influential gays and lesbians, in May 2007 Matt Prior made his test debut for England, and was placed 7th in England’s batting order.

A topical doppleganger this one. The Village Cricketer has noticed an uncanny resemblence between Ryan Sidebottom, the Nottinghamshire and England left-arm bowler with long, curly, ginger hair, and Robert Underdunk Terwilliger (better known by his stage name Sideshow Bob), the villainous homicidal maniac from The Simpsons known for his abnormally large feet and hair.
